How
much???
The price
of the drink or the pint to be exact has been the subject of much media
coverage and a little controversy over the past year or so. Everyone complains
about the prices but I don't see anyone protesting in the packed pubs.
Pub owners
seem to put prices up twice a year for no apparent reason other than to
make more money. The Government (to be fair) haven't increased their tax
take from the pint in the past few years.
Look for
price lists
Last year, the Government introduced legislation which compelled pub owners
to display a price list 'prominently' outside their premises. Which has
turned out to be a bit of a joke as many pubs ignored it just as the did
with the existing law that compelled them to display prices 'prominently'
inside the pub. Pubs can be fined of course. And no, not one has. Too
many of our politicians are involved in the pub trade y'see.
The price
of beer
Ok, some prices. Expect to pay from €3.50 (rare) up to €4.50+
for a pint of stout (Guinness, Murphy's, Beamish). It's highly unlikely
that you will pay less than €3.90 for a pint of lager. The
average would be around IR£€4.40. Yes, it would turn
you to drink.
Spirit
levels
Spirits, shorts, vodka and all that are also on the pricey side. You won't
see much change from a fiver after a short and mixer. Average would be
from €5.50 to €6.90.
Wine
Wine is not as popular in pubs, you'll either get a glass from a bottle
that could have been open since the Spice Girls were together or more
likely you'll get a small bottle. Prices vary greatly depending on the
pub not on the type of wine. Not much variety in the choice available.
Expect to fork out from €3.90+
