Hot
Spots. What the Editor recommends...
Now, these
are recommendations based on what different people are looking for in
a pub not necessarily whether I actually like the place or not. Old Dublin
pubs, modern trendy pubs, pubs for stag/hen parties, etc. Here are my
suggestions:
For an
authentic Dublin atmosphere (real Irish pubs)
McDaid's
Brazen Head
The Long Hall
Kehoe's
O'Donoghue's
International Bar
Doheny & Nesbits
For Parties
Ok, so you want to make some noise, have a few drinks and boogey on down.
Birthday parties are ok in most places with up to a dozen people. Hen
and stag parties are not. Only real place for these is Break
for the Border or a restaurant like Thunder Road Cafe in Temple Bar.
You also need enough room so that everybody can fit in and talk. What?
Sit down? Get outa here.
Sinnotts Bar
The Quays
Judge Roy Beans
For the
best looking women (and men)
The Bailey
Cafe en Seine
Zanzibar
The Odeon
SamSara
Cocoon
For scoring?
Buskers
Copperface Jacks
O'Dwyers of Mount Street
Break for the Border
Zanzibar
For Stag/Hen Parties
It depends on the pub really. Some are strict. Some not so strict depending
on what you look like and how loud you are! The smaller pubs obviously
wouldn't be keen. And your best bet is to STAY AWAY from most pubs
in the Temple Bar area.
Break for the Border
Zanzibar
O'Dwyers of Mount Street
Bobs (Temple Bar)
For
sports
Pubs for Sports
Rugby pubs
For trendy
heads
Only if you're young(ish), exceptionally fashionable, impossibly good
looking and an expert air kisser. OK, I exaggerate a little, but these
are for the beautiful people.
"Dahlings, mine's a Smirnoff Ice!"
Cafe
en Seine
SamSara
Zanzibar
The Bailey
Fireworks
Cocoon
Lillies Bordello (club)
For Lap
Dancing
And
for men looking for that bit extra, try Angels on Lower Leeson
Street and Club Lapello
on Dame Street, two new lap dancing bars.
For Dating
First dates are important. First impressions and all that. What
pub you choose can say a lot about your personality and ultimately whether
you'll have babies together. Ok, I'm kidding.
Has to be fairly quiet so you can talk and get to know each other without
blaring music. There must also be few good looking women/men around to
distract you. It's not a good idea to be caught looking at other women
or men. Especially on a first date. First dates are usually midweek.
Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Some women (not many Irish women admittedly)
don't like going into pubs on their own, so men, you have to choose sensitively.
Sorry, apologies for that. I can't use the word 'sensitive' and 'men'
in the same sentence.
Some suggestions (in the city centre)
The
Duke
Hairy Lemon
McTurkels
Viva
For music
No idea. Try Entertainment
Ireland for info on that.
