Keating's
Jervis
Street at Lower Abbey Street
Due to the
massive building work taking place in Dublin City this pub was moved lock,
stock but no smoking barrels 200 yards down a street in 1998 to make way
for a new shopping centre. What had been a smallish but unique pub is
now a larger, trying-hard--to-be trendy pub.

It's
a bit out of the way of normal pubs given where it is situated. You
have to make an effort to get here. A reasonable mix of people from
an after work crowd to students. |
Decor |
|
The
metal spiral staircase is interesting. As are the high ceilings and
murals. A total transformation from its previous format. Not a typical
Irish pub (wood) so it has to be applauded. |
Scoring |
|
Mixed
groups but it's a meeting place for friends or for drinks after work.
Chance would be a fine thing. |

Again
fairly mixed. Not the greatest place but not the worst either. |
Beer
Standards |

The
old Keating's was pretty good but standards have slipped since the
move. Food is pretty good though. |
And
the toilets? |
|
Way
up the back and the top of the pub and a bit of a squeeze to get to
if the pub is busy. Not good with a full bladder. |
Overall |
|
An
interesting spot for a few beers. It's location counts against it
unless you work or are staying on that side of town. |
