The
Mercantile/O'Brien's
Dame Street, just up and across from the Central Bank.
Two pubs
with separate entrances and identities, but joined at the hip so to speak
with a door between the two. Both pubs are very lively especially at weekends
and attract both visitors and locals. O'Briens is the older pub while
the Mercantile has only been built in the last couple of years.

Plenty
of action on show for both men and women in both pubs, though the
Mercantile would shade it. Serves late at the weekend. |
Decor |

The
Mercantile is very impressive. Sort of modelled on a European cafe
style. A very fancy staircase catches the eye while the upstairs balcony
is impressive. |
Scoring |

Plenty
of male and females knocking around looking for love, one assumes.
Though attracts large mixed groups usually so your chances might be
slim. |

Certainly
attracts some good lookers, but I always get the impression that they
are trying too hard. And that's just the men. |
Beer
Standards |
|
Pretty
poor. The last time we were here (the Mercantile part), we left after
one drink and I didn't even finish that. Not the cheapest either. |
And
the toilets? |
|
Very
nice thankfully. |
Overall |
|
Poor
beer lets it down. Inclined to get very packed and stuffy, but the
decor and layout of the Mercantile is interesting. |
