The
Oak/Thomas Read's
Corner of Dame Street and Parliament Street. Across from
City Hall
Two separate
pubs that happen to be connected. The Oak is an older style of pub with
plenty of wood, while Thomas Read's is more of a cafe/bar sort of thing
with chrome and steel brightening things up a bit. Thomas Read's offers
food during the day.

These
two are favourites of mine. A lively young crowd where talking is
the name of the game. Both pubs have a similar type crowd, mainly
20 somethings with good jobs or students with money. |
Decor |
|
Steel,
chrome and wood in TR's and wood in the Oak. Not much room to sit
down, especially in the Oak. But if you do sit down, it will be while
before you leave. |
Scoring |
|
Like
many of the newer pubs, this has mixed crowd where many people seem
to know each other. |
Babes
+ Hunks |
|
Both
pubs are inclined to attract a young dance club crowd so nose rings,
crop tops and other appropriate or inappropriate items of clothing
are the order of the night. |
Beer
Standards |
|
Surprisingly
good especially in the Oak. Also offers a selection of top continental
beers from Germany and Belgium. Go on. Ask for bottle of Duvel. It's
powerful stuff. |
And
the toilets? |
|
Smallish
but well looked after. |
Overall |
|
Two
bloody good pubs with enough difference between the two to provide
some variety and enjoyment. |
